“He Has My Forgiveness” – Rep. Matt Gaetz on Rep. Mike Rogers After Friday Night Rampage – Rogers Thankful and Regretful

Matt Gaetz has offered his forgiveness to Rep. Mike Rogers and Rogers has accepted.

On Friday night, the 14th vote was not going as well as the hopeful Speaker McCarthy wanted it.  It looked like Matt Gaetz was the one vote that he needed to win the speakership.  Gaetz instead voted for another Republican Representative.

McCarthy then went and spoke to Gaetz.  This apparently did not go well with both men yelling at each other.

Rep. Mike Rogers entered the scene and started yelling at Gaetz.  He was hot and was quickly held back by a fellow GOP representative.  Rogers later claimed that he would, “drop him like a bag of dirt” (referring to Gaetz).

The next vote was to end voting for the night.  McCarthy didn’t have enough votes.

When it looked like all would go home, Gaetz suddenly ran up to the front of the room, changed his vote so they could do one more vote, told McCarthy, and the fifteenth and final vote was held.  McCarthy was voted in as Speaker.

Over the weekend Gaetz was on a talk show on Sunday morning where he spoke about the incident and said he forgave Rogers.

A short time later Rogers tweeted a thank you to Gaetz for his forgiveness and said that he and Gaetz worked well together in the past and would work well together in the future.

.@RepMattGaetz and I have a long and productive working relationship, that I am sure will continue. I regret that I briefly lost my temper on the House Floor Friday evening and appreciate Matt’s kind understanding. https://t.co/8GmbJHO3cK
