A tanker hauling deadly chemicals rolled over on Interstate 10 in Tucson, Arizona.
Reuters reported the tanker was hauling nitric acid which is a toxic chemical used in explosives, fertilizer, and for materials in the polymer industry.
When nitric acid is exposed to humans without PPE, it can cause severe lung damage, pulmonary edema and irritation to the skin and eyes.
Immediately after the tanker rolled over, clouds of nitric acid were seen by motorists on the interstate.

In response to the rollover, the Arizona Department of Public Safety issued a “shelter in place” warning and encouraged anyone within a few mile radius of the spill to stay inside.
WFIN reported the driver behind the tanker was found dead on the scene and his name has been withheld until the next of kin are notified.

The toxic spill comes just a week after a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palenstine, Ohio.
