It should be no surprise to TGP readers that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a trustworthy ‘partner.’ Still, a recent meeting Zelenskyy had with top Trump Administration officials proves beyond all doubt that he remains a key obstacle to peace.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat down with former CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge for an exclusive interview this week to discuss an array of foreign policy issues, including Ukraine, America’s proposal for Gaza, preventing Iranian nuclear weapons, and more.
The conversation took a turn when Ukraine and Zelenskyy came up. After Herridge asked Rubio about Trump’s Truth Social post where he called Zelenskyy a dictator, the Secretary of State pointed out that even Joe Biden had plenty of “frustrations” with the Ukrainian President as well.
This included a phone where Biden swore at Zelenskyy for being ungrateful about the overly generous aid America had bestowed on his country.
Rubio shared details about a recent meeting he and Vance had with the Ukrainian President, which will make you furious.
“I was personally very upset because we (Vance) had a conversation with President Zelenskyy, and we discussed this issue about the mineral rights,” Rubio said. “We explained to them, ‘Look, we want to be in a joint venture with you because we think that is a security guarantee because we are your partner in an endeavor. We get to be paid back some of the money American taxpayers have given, close to $200 billion.”
Zelenskyy committed to the deal, only for Rubio and Vance to find out later that he had lied to their faces.
“And he said, ‘Sure, we want to do this deal. It makes all the sense in the world. The only thing is I need to run it through my legislative process,’ Rubio added. “I read two days later that Zelenskyy is saying, ‘I rejected the deal,’ but that’s not what happened.”

Vance confirmed Rubio’s account of the meeting on X on Friday.

As The Gateway Pundit’s Cassandra MacDonald reported, Zelenskyy made a similar promise to President Trump earlier this month. Trump had been pushing for $500 billion in rare earth minerals from Ukraine in exchange for continued military aid.
