Britain’s Finance Minister Blames Trump For Her Country’s Shrinking Economy: ‘We Are Feeling the Consequences’

Britain’s Finance Minister is blaming President Trump for the country’s economic woes.

According to the latest figures published Friday, the British economy contracted by 0.1 percent in January, mainly driven by a decline in manufacturing.

The news is a blow to the country’s left-wing government, which has promised to deliver growth to help pay for its outlandish public spending initiatives.

However, Chancellor Rachel Reeves attempted to shift the blame onto Trump, claiming that Britain was experiencing the “consequences” of his presidency.

“The world has changed and across the globe we are feeling the consequences,” said Reeves.

“I believe, this Government believes, in free and open trade, and will continue to make that point,” she continued.

“We are in negotiations at the moment for an economic agreement with the United States to try and ensure that British exporters are supported to export all around the world, including to the United States, and to ensure that they don’t push up prices for UK consumers with more tariffs.”

Her claims might hold up better if Britain were the target of the escalating trade war between the U.S. and various countries, including Mexico and Canada.

However, the British government failed to secure an exemption to Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum, which are worth approximately $600 million.

President Trump met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the Oval Office last week and was invited to an official state visit.

When realizing this visit, Trump will become the first person in British history to receive two separate state visits.

The visit typically involves ceremonies and commemorations alongside the Royal Family followed by a banquet dinner in Buckingham Palace

“It’s an invitation for a second state visit, this is really special, this has never happened before, this is unprecedented,” Keir Starmer says
