Illinois Residential Care Center Worker Sentenced to 25 Years for Raping and Impregnating ‘Profoundly Disabled’ Woman

A caretaker at an Illinois residential care center has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping and impregnating a “profoundly disabled” woman who has the cognitive ability of an infant.

Isaiah Fields, 23, of Batavia, was working at the residences at Marklund’s Hyde Center when he raped the 43-year-old woman.

Fields’ duties at the center included bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding his victim, according to a report from the Daily Herald.

The victim has lived at the facility for 20 years due to her having Rett syndrome, which leaves her unable to speak, stand up, read, write, or use her hands. Prosecutors noted that this condition left her unable to fight off Fields or tell anyone what had happened to her.

“In April 2024, the woman was taken to a hospital for liver and gallbladder tests. It was discovered she was between 31 and 35 weeks pregnant and had preeclampsia. A boy was delivered the next day by Caesarean section,” the Daily Herald report says. “The boy was in a neonatal intensive care unit for 11 weeks but died in July 2024.”

If the victim had not been impregnated, nobody would have ever known she was being raped. Testing the baby’s DNA is what led law enforcement to Fields.

In January, Fields pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault.

“R.J. (the baby) didn’t live long in this world. But simply by coming into this world, he did justice for his mother,” prosecutor Matthew Rodgers said after Friday’s sentencing.

The Harald report added, “Fields also pleaded guilty in January to criminal sexual abuse for a 2023 attack on a woman at a home in Aurora. He touched the breasts of the woman while she was sleeping on a couch. He was sentenced to one year in prison in that case.”

Marklund’s CEO Gil Fonger said in a press release, “We are satisfied to see justice served, and believe that we can all have a measure of closure to this evil act at long last.”
