On Tuesday morning, President Trump welcomed Medal of Honor recipients to the White House on Medal of Honor Day.

The President took a few moments to speak with the distinguished gathering, telling them, “I feel brave among you.”

Watch:

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society shares, “Every year, on March 25, we come together to honor the brave men and women who have received the Medal of Honor, the highest military decoration in the United States. But what is Medal of Honor Day, and why does it matter?”

“Established by Congress in 1990, this day serves as an opportunity for us to reflect on the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and service displayed by Medal of Honor Recipients throughout American history. It is a time to pay tribute to these heroes, recognize their legacies, and support their continued work.”

The Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military award for valor. It is presented by the president in Congress’ name. By law, only U.S. service members who distinguish themselves “through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty” can receive the medal.

There are 3528 total recipients, 61 of whom are still living.
