U.S. Taxpayer Dollars Still Fund Controversial Animal Testing in Australia Amid Trump Administration Cuts

While the Trump administration is reportedly cutting funding for Australian universities that promote gender ideology, 19 animal research laboratories across Australia remain eligible for funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including at the universities where funding is being halted.

The cuts are part of President Donald Trump’s ban on funding diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) projects, grants, and programs. Monash University, Australian National University, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, and University of New South Wales are affected.

Taxpayer watchdog White Coat Waste has uncovered grants for animal testing at these universities and other Australian labs.

The American taxpayer-funded Australian grants include:

A $4.9 Million FDA Contract for COVID-19 Animal Models
One project, a $4.9 million contract awarded by the Biden administration in 2021 to the Australian government, focuses on “Strengthening COVID-19 Animal Models.” Funded through the FDA and scheduled to run until September 2026, it aims to enhance animal-based research on the virus.

$6 Million NIH Contract for Opioid Research on Dogs
A $6 million NIH contract supports animal testing for a private Australian drug company, testing KNX100 for opioid withdrawal. The funding is set to continue until May 2026.

$2.7 Million Fauci-Funded Smoking Experiments on Mice
The University of Melbourne received a $2.7 million NIAID grant in 2020, under Dr. Anthony Fauci’s tenure, for smoking experiments on mice. These involve forcing mice to inhale cigarette smoke and infecting them with viruses like H1N1, with funding secured until May 2025.

$9 Million TB Vaccine Testing on Monkeys and Mice
A $9 million NIH grant, awarded by NIAID in 2022 under Fauci, funds the University of Sydney to test tuberculosis vaccines on monkeys and mice. Scheduled to run until September 2027, it evaluates adjuvants and antigens for vaccine development.

$10 Million for Alcohol Abuse Studies on Rodents
The University of Sydney also holds a $10 million NIH grant, funded for 25 years and set to continue until June 2028, for alcohol abuse experiments on mice and rats. These include addicting rodents to alcohol, subjecting them to obesity studies, and “drinking-in-the-dark” experiments involving skull drilling.

According to the NIH’s project reporter tool, these labs are part of a network receiving over $30 million in active funding for various research projects.

“American taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to fund foreign aid to Australian animal labs to get animals drunk, force them to breathe cigarette smoke, infect them with the flu, COVID and tuberculosis, and poison them with experimental drugs,” Justin Goodman, senior vice president of WCW told The Gateway Pundit. “Australia has one of the world’s largest economies and shouldn’t be wasting our money on stupid and cruel animal tests. The solution is simple: Stop the money. Stop the madness!”

Earlier this week, the Trump administration has cancelled another wasteful National Institutes of Health grant to study overdoses of a party drug (GHB) by transgender people.

The $1,155,503 grant, uncovered by taxpayer watchdog White Coat Waste and highlighted by The Gateway Pundit, gave $1,155,503 to the University of the Pacific to castrate male rats and inject them with estrogen, remove female rats’ ovaries and inject them with testosterone, and then overdose them with GHB to “evaluate the potential for altered toxicity/overdose risk in transgender men and women.”

ANOTHER VICTORY: Trump Admin Cancels NIH Grant to Turn Animals Transgender and Overdose Them on GHB

Following WCW’s investigations, President Donald Trump has now cut 10 NIH grants funding transgender animal experiments.
