OUTRAGEOUS: Speaker Johnson Cancels Votes for Rest of Week, Derailing Two Critical Bills, Despite Having Power to Proceed

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) abruptly canceled all votes for the remainder of the week, halting progress on critical conservative legislation—including the SAVE Act and measures to rein in rogue judicial activism—despite having full authority to keep the House in session.

The move comes after a humiliating defeat on the House floor Tuesday when Johnson attempted to torpedo a controversial rule that would allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely.

Luna, who’s been locking horns with Johnson over this, celebrated the outcome as a “historical day,” crowing that “parents deserve a voice in Washington.”

Teaming up with Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.)—who paraded her baby on the House floor Tuesday—the duo managed to rally 218 signatures, including 11 Republicans, to force the issue via a discharge petition.

A discharge petition is a procedural tool that enables lawmakers to bypass leadership and bring a bill to the House floor—if it secures signatures from a majority of members.

Some conservatives are calling Rep. Luna’s tone-deaf, selfish, and a betrayal of the hardworking Americans they were elected to represent.

One angry voter wrote on social media, “A selfish action by Congress led by @RepLuna. I’m disappointed because I had to go back to work two weeks after my three children because I couldn’t afford to go without food for them. They really showed their selfishness and showed that they don’t care about their constituents!”

Another conservative voice echoed the sentiment: “Congress is supposed to represent the American people. Most Americans work full-time jobs — sometimes 2 jobs! We are done letting you steal our hard-earned tax dollars and seeing you kick back and do nothing!”

Popular conservative commentator “Catturd” didn’t hold back either: “Another week of Republicans caving to Democrats and Republicans in Congress getting nothing done to help Trump for another week is all that happened here. Another week of rogue judges destroying the MAGA agenda. The Republican Congress has done exactly ZERO to even pass one of Trump’s executive orders into law, while Trump works 100-hour weeks. Enjoy another week off.”

Political commentator Nick Sortor also blasted the move, writing: “A handful of Republicans just BLOCKED ALL remaining House votes this week. Why? Because they want to force the ability of some members to vote from home. REMINDER TO CONGRESS: THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU. You work for the American people. If you can’t do the job, RESIGN. Rogue activist judges now have yet ANOTHER week of free range, and the American people lose. Great going, guys!”

Johnson’s counterpunch on Luna’s controversial bill? A sneaky rule tweak to squash the petition. It backfired spectacularly.

The fallout was swift. With nine Republicans crossing the aisle to join 213 Democrats, the rule vote collapsed, freezing bills like the SAVE Act and measures to rein in activist judges targeting Trump. Johnson’s response? Tuck tail and send lawmakers packing until Monday.

“A handful of Republicans just joined every House Democrat to take down a rule,” Johnson posted. “This means we can’t take any further action on President Trump’s agenda this week: No SAVE Act. No vote to address rogue judges attacking Trump. No votes to repeal Biden regulations,” Johnson’s wrote.

That’s only true because he allowed it to be.

According to congressional procedure experts and recent reporting, Johnson holds the power to bring up a new rule, resume floor action, and even prioritize the Republican agenda immediately.

Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News wrote, “This is a choice, of course. They can bring up the SAVE Act at any time without a rule. They can go back to rules. It’s only Tuesday!! But they’re done for the week after @realannapaulina beat @SpeakerJohnson on that rule vote over proxy voting for parents.”

THE HOUSE is done voting for the week. It’s Tuesday. They’ll be back Monday.

Johnson’s choice to recess now, with only four legislative days scheduled next week and a two-week vacation looming, is being blasted as political malpractice.

Instead of regrouping and charging forward, the Speaker handed progressives a symbolic win—and left Trump allies out to dry at a time when America’s future hangs in the balance.
