Police are currently investigating a “shooting incident” at Dallas, Texas’s Wilmer-Hutchins High School on Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene at approximately 1 pm CT.

Initial reporting showed a large police, fire, and paramedic response:

Per Fox 4 Dallas, “Three people have non-life-threatening injuries, and one person is in serious condition.”

This is reportedly the second shooting incident at the school. In April 2024, one student shot another inside a classroom.

Dallas Morning News reports, “The district would later blame both human error and systems failure for why a teenager was able to bring a gun into the high school. The Monday after the 2024 incident, which occurred in a classroom, students staged a walkout and said they did not feel safe at school. Multiple students said at the time that the school’s metal detectors were not regularly used and the school did not consistently enforce its clear bag policies, both points of frustration.”

Dallas Independent School District confirmed at 1:25 pm that a “shooting incident” occurred.

“Safety protocols have been implemented, and we are asking everyone to refrain from coming to the campus,” they shared.

Per Dallas Morning News:

An internal police message obtained by The News said the suspected shooter, who has not been publicly identified, was still on the lam as of about 3:30 p.m. Police provided a description of a suspected person and directed officers across the city to look for him.

Adonta Jackson, a senior at Wilmer-Hutchins, said he heard about eight gunshots and screaming about 1 p.m. He then said students began running out of the school.

Lashunda Edwards, Jackson’s mother, said she got a call from a friend that there was a shooting at the school. She said she dropped everything and left work immediately to get to the school.

This is a developing story.
