Luigi Mangione—the radical left-wing activist turned alleged assassin—has been indicted by a federal grand jury on four federal charges, including crimes that make him eligible for the death penalty.

The indictment comes just weeks after Mangione’s name exploded across the headlines following the cold-blooded murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a husband and father of three.

Prosecutors allege that Mangione meticulously planned the ambush as a political statement against what he described as the “corporate medical regime.”

Despite leftist commentators and even some media figures bizarrely romanticizing Mangione as a “revolutionary,” the federal government isn’t playing games. The charges include:

  • Interstate stalking resulting in death
  • Use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death
  • Conspiracy to commit murder
  • Murder of a federal witness

According to ABC News, these charges make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

Attorney General Pam Bondi described the act as a “cold-blooded assassination” and emphasized the administration’s commitment to restoring the federal death penalty as a deterrent against heinous crimes.

“Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America. After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again,” Pam Bondi said.

Mangione, an Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland family, shot Thompson in the back outside a Manhattan hotel during UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference last December.

Evidence includes surveillance footage of the masked shooter and bullets inscribed with “delay,” “deny,” and “depose,” phrases associated with insurance claim denials.

In December, Luigi Mangione was formally indicted on 11 criminal counts, including first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, for the ambush killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson earlier this month, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday.

The high-profile indictment escalates the case against Mangione following Thompson’s killing outside a Manhattan hotel on December 4.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg outlined the charges in a statement, revealing that the New York State Supreme Court indictment includes:

  • Murder in the First Degree, a class A-I felony, one count
  • Murder in the Second Degree, a class A-I felony, two counts
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, as class C felony, two counts
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony, four counts
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony, one count
  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, a class D felony, one count

Mangione was apprehended on December 9 at McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a nationwide manhunt. A vigilant employee recognized him, leading to his arrest.

During his arrest, authorities recovered a firearm, a fake ID, a notebook, and a handwritten document, which are now part of the investigation. Mangione was arraigned in Pennsylvania on multiple felony charges, including forgery and carrying a firearm without a license, along with several misdemeanors tied to the use of fraudulent identification.

This is a breaking story.
