President Trump and First Lady Melania hosted the Easter Roll at the White House on Monday.
The Trump White House posted about the history behind the White House Easter Egg Roll.
“The White House Easter Egg Roll officially dates back to 1878 and the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes, but first-hand accounts suggest that informal festivities began with egg-rolling parties under President Abraham Lincoln. Starting in the 1870s, Easter Monday celebrations on the U.S. Capitol’s west grounds grew so popular that President Ulysses S. Grant signed a bill that banned the rolling of eggs on Capitol grounds, citing landscape concerns,” The White House said.
“In 1878, a group of bold children walked up to the White House gate, hoping to be allowed to play egg-rolling games there. President Hayes told his guards to let the children enter, and soon Easter Monday on the White House grounds became an annual tradition. President Benjamin Harrison added music to the festivities in 1889 with the United States Marine Band,” the White House said.
President Trump, with First Lady Melania by his side, said, “We are honoring Jesus Christ” at Monday’s Easter Egg Roll.
“We’re honoring Jesus Christ and we’re going to honor Jesus Christ very powerfully throughout our lives … not just now, all throughout our lives,” Trump said.

At one point, President Trump zinged Joe Biden during the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
“Do you remember the bunny with Joe Biden? Do you remember?” Trump said. “Do you remember when the bunny took Joe Biden out? He’s not taking Trump out.”

What a difference a few years – and a new president make.
In 2022, Joe Biden got manhandled by the Easter Bunny during the White House Easter Egg Roll.
Nurse Jill did her best to keep Joe in line, but it was all hands on deck to keep Biden away from children and reporters.
Even the Easter Bunny was bossing Joe Biden around.
The Easter bunny interrupted Joe as he was talking to reporters and pulled him away from the press pool.
