Congressmen Urge Investigation into Federal Weaponization of Law Enforcement Against Concerned Parents
Representative Abraham Hamadeh (AZ) has enjoined FBI Director Kash Patel to restore integrity and protect civil liberties in a new letter urging a thorough investigation into the misuse of federal law enforcement and counterterrorism resources against parents who voiced concerns at school board meetings and schools from January 1, 2020, to the present. Representatives Jim Jordan (OH), Eli Crane (AZ), Paul Gosar (AZ), Andy Biggs (AZ), and Andy Ogles (TN) are slated to co-sponsor the letter.
Representative Hamadeh’s letter complains that numerous parents—law-abiding citizens exercising their First Amendment rights—were wrongfully targeted, surveilled, investigated, and even prosecuted under the fraudulent premise of being “domestic terrorists.”
“This coordinated purposeful targeting and mistreatment of concerned parents as ‘domestic terrorists’ must be addressed by the FBI and Attorney General on a high-priority level,” asserts Hamadeh.
Of particular concern is the memo issued under Attorney General Merrick Garland, which played a central role in the wrongful targeting of these parents. The Department of Justice’s actions led to chilling consequences: peaceful individuals were arrested, fined, or jailed, inflicting emotional, financial, and legal burdens on families across the country.
The letter calls for an Executive Order to expunge politically motivated convictions and to provide restitution to those unjustly affected. “These actions by federal and local authorities have resulted in significant personal and financial hardship for American families, often without substantiated cause or threats.”
This disturbing trend revealed a systemic weaponization of federal agencies against individuals expressing legitimate concerns about the education and well-being of their children. “These actions express the sheer abuse of federal power and authority and set an alarming precedent that threatens civil liberties,” according to Hamadeh.
Kelly John Walker of FreedomTalk.com initiated a conversation with several members of Congress, including the co-sponsors, with an email dated June 27, 2023. “American families including my own have suffered unlawful arrest—both of parents and even minor children—for exercising their First Amendment rights, and for demanding answers to questions deeply affecting their children’s education, religious freedom, as well as mental and physical health,” wrote Walker.
“Those who authorized or carried out these actions—including public school administrators who participated in this conscience-shocking abuse—must be held responsible, and appropriate restitution must be made. On behalf of many parents and families across the nation, I want to thank Representative Hamadeh for sponsoring this letter, and for the continued support of Representatives Crane, Gosar, Ogles, Biggs, and Jordan.”
“It is past time for the American government to reaffirm its commitment to uphold civil liberties,” says Walker, “and ensure that federal power is never again weaponized against the people it serves. This administration has a duty to restore the Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness these parents enjoyed before their own government waged war upon them.”
