DHS Chief Kristi Noem released new details about how a masked man was able to snatch her purse while she was dining at a DC restaurant with her family on Sunday.
In an appalling security breach, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was robbed by a masked man in a DC restaurant.
Kristi Noem has Secret Service protection, but a masked man was able to steal her purse while she dined at a restaurant with her children and grandchildren on Sunday night.
The thief took off with Noem’s purse, which included $3,000 in cash, her passport, DHS badge, and other valuables.
“The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said,” CNN reported.
“The thief got away with Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and about $3,000 in cash,” CNN reported.
Noem said the robber kicked her purse, dropped a coat over it, and carried it away. She said she thought her grandkids were kicking her feet when the thief snatched her purse.
“It was kind of shocking, actually, because it was sitting right by my feet. I actually felt my purse, he hooked it with his foot and drug it a few steps away and dropped a coat over it and took it,” Kristi Noem said on the “VINCE Show,” according to Fox News.
“I felt it, but I thought it was my grandkids kicking me in the legs. But it was very professionally done, and it tells that this happens all the time to people and that they live in communities where this is a danger and it reaffirms why I am here,” she added. “My job is to make sure that I do everything, every day I can to make our communities safer and President Trump recognizes that families shouldn’t have to live with any kind of violence in their lives.”
The Secret Service is still investigating the incident.
