(VIDEO) “I’d Like to be Pope,” President Trump Jokes When Asked Who he Supports for Pope — Signals Support for Conservative Cardinal Timothy Michael Dolan of New York

On Tuesday, President Trump revealed his “number one choice” to succeed Pope Francis as Pope of the Catholic Church.

“I’d like to be Pope. That’d be my number one choice,” the President said jokingly before revealing that he really has “no preference.”

He did, however, say that he likes the Cardinal from New York, Timothy Michael Dolan, whom he described as “very good.”

Reporter: Who would you want to see as Pope?

Trump: As pope? I’d like to be Pope. That’d be my number one choice. No, I don’t know. I have no preference.

I must say, we have a Cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York, who’s very good. So, we’ll see what happens.

Cardinal Dolan has been openly supportive of the President, saying in a December interview that Trump “takes his Christian faith seriously.” He added, “I think the assassination attempts kind of renewed in him, ‘There’s something beyond me that I think is watching over me, and it’s got a task for me.’ And what he expresses personally seems to be expressed more and more throughout the world. And that’s part of America.”

He also criticized Obama repeatedly and accused him of wanting to divide the Catholic Church.

The “conclave,” the process where 135 Cardinals under age 80 will vote in secret to elect a new Pope, is expected to begin next Wednesday.

After a papacy marked by progressive shifts and controversial reforms, conservative Catholics are praying for a return to doctrinal clarity and traditional values.

The Gateway Pundit reported on the leading contenders to succeed Francis as MAGA Catholics hope to move on from the Pope’s liberal pro-LGBTQ legacy.
