Gavin Newsom Suddenly Claims to Care About California’s Massive Homeless Problem

California Governor Gavin Newsom is probably going to run for president in 2028. How do we know this? Because he is suddenly claiming to care about California’s homeless problem, which has been going on for years under his leadership.

This is typical for Newsom, as it is for many Democrats. He only cares about the problem now that it could affect him personally. He knows this would come up in debates and get mentioned in campaign ads.

If he cleans up the state now, he will point to it as a success story, even though he allowed the problem to fester for years.

The Associated Press reports:

Gov. Gavin Newsom urges California cities and counties to ban homeless encampments

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday urged California cities to clear homeless encampments, escalating efforts anew to address the makeshift tents that line underpasses, parks and streets up and down the state.

The Democratic governor unveiled a blueprint for a camping ban for cities and counties to follow in announcing more than $3 billion in grants for facilities to treat homeless people and others who struggle with mental health and substance use disorders.

He used the occasion to exhort cities and counties once again to use the money and policy changes provided by the state to do their part to help eradicate the disturbing street conditions that have come to define much of California

“No more excuses,” he said at a news conference, adding, “It is time to take back the streets. It’s time to take back the sidewalks. It’s time to take these encampments and provide alternatives.”

Newsom, a former mayor of San Francisco, made homelessness a priority upon taking office in 2019, tackling statewide a problem long the purview of mayors and local officials.

Newsom got slammed for this on Newsmax. Watch:

Newsom just announced yet another homelessness “plan.” He already squandered $24 billion as the homeless population exploded. His “10-year plan” to end homelessness in SF is now 20 years old.

Again, this is only a problem for Newsom now that it might hurt his ambitions. If he thinks people don’t see through this, the only person he is fooling is himself.
