US Lawmakers Warn EU Over Poland’s Globalist Regime’s Crackdown on Conservatives, Say “Censorship Regime” Threatens Free Speech in America

In a stunning rebuke of the European Union’s increasingly authoritarian agenda and the globalist forces tightening their grip across Europe, five Republican members of the US House of Representatives—led by Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan—have issued a blistering letter to the European Commission.

Their message? The Biden-allied regime in Warsaw, led by left-liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is trampling democracy, persecuting political opponents, and exporting censorship abroad through EU regulations that could stifle American free speech.

Signed by Jordan along with Reps. Darrell Issa, Chris Smith, Warren Davidson, and Andy Harris, the four-page letter, addressed to EU Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath, demands an immediate briefing on the “alarming authoritarian behavior” of Tusk’s Civic Platform government and the broader implications of Brussels’ Digital Services Act (DSA).

The lawmakers point to a mounting list of abuses committed by Tusk’s government against Poland’s conservative opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), its supporters, and even members of the Catholic clergy.

The letter specifically highlights the politically motivated persecution of PiS officials and aides, including Barbara Skrzypek, a close associate of party leader Jarosław Kaczyński. Skrzypek reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack after hours of intense interrogation, during which she was denied access to legal counsel. Another example includes the arrest and “inhumane treatment” of Father Olszewski, a Catholic priest detained in a case critics widely see as a political witch hunt.

“These actions appear designed to silence and damage its political opposition ahead of Poland’s 2025 presidential election,” the letter reads.

In a clear echo of tactics used by repressive regimes, the Tusk government has also moved aggressively against conservative media, revoking broadcasting licenses and throttling dissenting voices critical of the ruling establishment. In perhaps the most chilling development, the congressmen warn that the Tusk regime is using the EU’s DSA to censor political speech under the guise of combatting “misinformation.”

The threat, however, extends far beyond Poland. “The DSA may set de facto global censorship standards and thus restrict Americans’ online speech,” the letter warns. Since social media giants like TikTok, Facebook, and X operate across borders, policies dictated by Brussels could effectively become the default censorship regime for the entire internet, including in the United States.

Republican lawmakers are asking how the EU plans to implement its so-called “European Democracy Shield” without violating US constitutional protections for free speech. They also want to know how Brussels intends to hold Tusk accountable—or if it even plans to do so.

Perhaps most damning is the congressional letter’s exposure of the EU’s rank hypocrisy. Under the previous conservative PiS government, Brussels waged a relentless campaign over alleged “rule of law” violations, even stripping elected MEPs of their immunity. But now that a pro-EU, liberal-globalist like Tusk is in charge, the same abuses are met with deafening silence from European officials.

“This apparent double standard raises concerns about the EU’s impartiality and its commitment to protecting fundamental rights across all member states,” the lawmakers write.

While the European Parliament once lambasted PiS for judicial reforms and media regulation, it now looks the other way as Tusk weaponizes the state to punish dissent. The letter makes it clear that such selective outrage reveals an ideological agenda—not a principled defense of democracy.

In their concluding remarks, the congressmen call for an urgent briefing from Commissioner McGrath to explain how the EU will:

  • Investigate Tusk’s alleged violations of rule-of-law;
  • Ensure the DSA is not used to suppress political speech;
  • Guarantee that European censorship mandates do not reach American shores.
