At least 21 people were killed when storms and tornadoes ripped through Kentucky and Missouri on Friday.

One of the tornadoes spun through the St. Louis neighborhood of Gateway Pundit owner and founder Jim Hoft, but thankfully, his home was spared, other than downed trees in the yard.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed that at least 14 people were killed in his state, and he expects the death toll to rise in the coming days.

“Kentucky, we’re starting today with the tough news that we lost at least 14 of our people to last night’s storms, but sadly, this number is expected to grow as we receive more information. Please pray for all of our affected families,” Beshear wrote in a post on X.

USA Today reports, “More than 45,000 Kentucky residents across LG&E and KU’s service area are without power as of the morning of May 17.”

During a press conference, St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer said it is believed to have been one of the worst storms in the city’s history. She said that more than 5,000 homes were affected.

“The devastation is truly tremendous,” Spencer told the media.

Spencer added, “This is a hard night for many, many families. Our city is grieving tonight. The loss of life and the destruction is truly, truly horrendous. Our priority tonight and for the next 24 hours is life — protecting it, finding those who may be trapped, and getting them to safety.”

Tornadoes were also reported in Wisconsin.

Newsweek reports, “The storm system is forecast to shift southward on Saturday, putting parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas at risk for damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.”
