J.D. Vance Still Runaway Favorite For 2028 GOP Nomination, All Rivals Stuck in Single Digits

Vice President JD Vance remains the frontrunner in the race for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, according to a newly released poll.

The survey, conducted by J.L. Partners in May, shows that 46% of registered Republican voters are prepared to support Vance as the heir apparent to Donald Trump — putting him well ahead of any other potential contenders.

No other figure cracked double digits in the poll.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who ran unsuccessfully in 2024, garnered just 8 percent support in a potential second attempt.

Entrepreneur and Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy followed closely with 7 percent, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz each pulled in 6 percent.

Former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina governor Nikki Haley registered at five percent.

The results suggest that Vance is consolidating support early among Republican voters as the GOP faces the prospect of a post-Trump era.

In an interview earlier this month, Trump seemingly ruled out the possibility of his serving a third term and indicated that Vance and Rubio would be good candidates to succeed him.

“It’s far too early to say that, but I do have a vice president and typically would be – and JD’s doing a fantastic job,” Trump said in an interview on NBC.

“It could very well be. I don’t want to get involved in that,” he said. “I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy.”

“Marco is great,” Trump added. “There’s a lot of them that are great. I also see tremendous unity.”

A CPAC straw poll taken back in February also placed Vance as the runaway favorite among the conservative grassroots, winning with a 61 percent majority.

Former Trump campaign manager and War Room host Steve Bannon came in second with 12 percent of the vote, while DeSantis followed in third with seven percent.
