President Trump is delivering remarks at the United States Military Academy at West Point commencement ceremony in West Point, New York, this morning.
This comes a day after Vice President JD Vance delivered remarks at the Naval Academy’s commencement in Annapolis, Maryland, on Friday.
The President’s remarks to West Point grads, who will shake his hand before they are commissioned as U.S. Army Second Lieutenants, comes amid Trump’s shake-up and abolishment of DEI at the academy and across the military.
Per ABC:
In February, shortly after Hegseth was confirmed by the Senate, West Point disbanded several student clubs, including the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the Latin Cultural Club and the Native American Heritage Forum.
The changes were made “in accordance with recent Presidential Executive Orders, Department of Defense guidance, and the Department of the Army guidance,” according to a memo obtained by ABC News.
Two protests are planned during the ceremony, one outside West Point’s gate and another on the Hudson River involving people on boats, according to organizers.
The Trump Administration has touted its skyrocketing military recruitment numbers since Trump won the 2024 election and became President. “What we have seen since your election and the inauguration has been nothing short of a recruiting Renaissance,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told the President during a recent cabinet meeting.
Trump is facing criticism from the leftwing media and some West Point professors over these moves, but these same people had no problem with Biden forcing DEI, trans insanity, and COVID-19 vaccine mandates on military members and service academy attendees.
“We welcomed back all the COVID, the folks who were forced out because of the COVID mandate, ripped wokeness out of the military, Sir, DEI, trans, and it’s Fort Benning and Fort Bragg again at the DOD,” Hegseth said at last month’s cabinet meeting.
The President is scheduled to speak at 10:15 am ET.
