Stephen Miller Unleashes on Sen. Rand Paul for Opposing ICE Funding While Backing Trillions in Open Border Spending

White House deputy speaker Stephen Miller lit into Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) on Sunday, hammering the Kentucky libertarian for what he called a “dishonest and disgraceful” stance on border security and funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Miller blasted Paul after the senator appeared on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, where he attempted to justify his opposition to a border funding bill.

Bartiromo pressed Paul, referencing the chaos unfolding in Los Angeles as ICE agents faced violent resistance from illegal alien agitators and the National Guard was deployed to restore order.

Maria Bartiromo:
There are people who are questioning why you would not support a bill that puts more money into border security—particularly at this moment in time, when we see what’s going on in Los Angeles this morning. We have some pictures of the violence in L.A. The President had to send the National Guard to Los Angeles. Are you suggesting that the money being spent on the border is too excessive?

Rand Paul:
What I’m suggesting is that we can add money to the border, but what they’re asking for is excessive. I’ll give you an example. For the fence, they want $46.5 billion. Well, I did the math on this. The current rate, according to the Border Patrol, is $6.5 million per mile. That would be $6.5 billion for a thousand miles. Nobody’s really estimating there’s more than a thousand miles that could be fenced at this point. So that’s $6.5 billion versus $46.5 billion. Where’s all the money going?

I’ve asked the Trump administration, where’s all the money going? As far as hiring new people, I would hire some new people. I would give some bonuses. I’d probably do half as much as what they’re asking for because the border is largely controlled right now. And what we don’t want is, when we wind up looking back at this, to have an army of Border Patrol agents that we have on the hook for payments and pensions and everything else. We need to do it judiciously and not in a reckless manner.

That’s when Miller stepped in.

“The United States has spent trillions subsidizing open borders and mass migration,” Miller posted on X. “But when we talk about providing ICE even a modest sum to repel the invasion, the Rand libertarians are aghast. Each deportation saves taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

Miller didn’t hold back. He exposed the hypocrisy in a series of damning tweets, accusing Paul of playing politics while ignoring the fiscal and national security disaster unfolding on the southern border.

“Look at how dishonest this post is,” Miller wrote, referencing Paul’s statements.

“The only new spending in the tax cut bill is for homeland defense & security—offset by new fees on foreigners. The only other consequential spending provisions are more than $1.6 trillion in spending CUTS, including ending benefits for illegals and imposing welfare work requirements.”
