Boelter, 57, shot and killed Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband early Saturday morning.

Boelter also shot and wounded Democrat State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

“John is enduring many surgeries right now and is closer every hour to being out of the woods. He took 9 bullet hits. I took 8 and we are both incredibly lucky to be alive,” John Hoffman’s wife Yvette Hoffman said on Sunday. “We are gutted and devastated by the loss of Melissa and Mark. We have no words. There is never a place for this kind of political hate. Thank you for your friendship always. Minnesotans are at our very best when we stand together.”

Investigators say Boelter, disguised as a police officer, wore a realistic-looking silicon face mask as he knocked on the legislators’ homes.

Acting US Attorney Joe Thompson said Boelter went to FOUR legislators’ homes on Saturday.

“In the early morning hours of June 14th, Boelter went to the homes of four Minnesota state politicians with the intent to kill them,” Acting US Attorney Joe Thompson said.

Thompson also revealed new details on the ambush of Senator Hoffman.

According to the FBI, Boelter knocked on Hoffman’s door and said, “open up, it’s the police!”

After Senator Hoffman opened his front door, Boelter reportedly shined a flashlight in his eyes and told him there was reports of a shooting at the residence.

Hoffman quickly realized Boelter was not a police officer but it was too late. Boelter forced his way into the Hoffmans’ home and shot Senator Hoffman and his wife several times.

Hoffman’s daughter called 911.
