REPORT: Iran Coordinated Missile Attack on US Base in Qatar with Qatari Government

Iran reportedly coordinated its missile attack on the US base in Qatar on Monday with Qatari officials, according to The New York Times.

“Iran coordinated the attacks on the American air base in Qatar with Qatari officials and gave advanced notice that attacks were coming to minimize casualties, according to three Iranian officials familiar with the plans. The officials said Iran symbolically needed to strike back at the US but at the same time carry it out in a way that allowed all sides an exit ramp; they described it as a similar strategy to 2020 when Iran gave Iraq heads up before firing ballistic missiles an American base in Iraq following the assassination of its top general,” the New York Times reported.

Iran launched missiles at the US base in Qatar shortly after Qatar closed its airspace on Monday.

According to Axios, 10 missiles were launched toward US bases in Qatar.

Iran reportedly coordinated the missile attack with Qatar to minimize casualties.

Qatar also said it helped intercept the missiles.

AP reported:

Qatar Foreign Ministry condemned the attack on Al Udeid base by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards calling it “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, and international law.”

The ministry added that the continuation of such military activities endangers security and stability of the region.

“We call for an immediate end to all military activities,” Qatar’s foreign ministry said.

Qatar’s Defense Ministry says Iranian strikes on the gas-rich nation did not inflict any casualties.

The ministry added that Qatari forces took part in intercepting Iranian missiles that were directed toward the Al Udeid base that houses U.S. troops.
