Russian SVR Chief Sergey Naryshkin: communication channels are open.

While the process of normalization in the diplomatic and commercial relations between the US and Russia is ‘on a pause’, there is ongoing contact between the two countries’ premier intelligence agencies, the CIA and the SVR, signaling that the dark days of the Cold War are left behind.

Today (29), it arises that Russian spy chief Sergei Naryshkin says that he has again spoken to the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe.

According to Naryshkin, they have agreed to call each other ‘at any time’.

Reuters reported:

“The CIA and Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the successor to the KGB’s famed First Chief Directorate, have long been intense rivals, and each service resorted to public campaigns to recruit agents in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

SVR Director Naryshkin told Kremlin state television reporter Pavel Zarubin that he had a call with the CIA’s Ratcliffe and agreed on calling each other to discuss issues of interest.

‘I had a phone call with my American counterpart and we reserved for each other the possibility to call each other at any time and discuss issues of interest to us’, Naryshkin told Zarubin.”

Russian-American dialogue has seen renewed momentum since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, and Naryshkin’s last known call with the CIA director took place back in April, when the Russian spy even floated a meeting with Ratcliffe.

TASS reported (back in April):

“Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin has announced a potential meeting with CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

’I had a telephone conversation with my colleague, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. It was a very constructive conversation. So, I do not rule out the possibility of a meeting in the near future’, Naryshkin told TASS.”
