House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is mounting an ill-fated stand against the seemingly inevitable passage of President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” with a stupid filibuster that is already blowing up in his face.

The vote was supposed to occur earlier this morning, but Jeffries decided to grandstand for several hours by reading supposed letters from Americans worried about the bill beginning just before 5 AM ET.

Jeffries is being allowed to drone on and on thanks to the House’s “Magic Minute” rule. As ABC News notes, this is a procedural gambit that allows House leadership as much time as they want to speak after debate on a bill has concluded.

His stunt is so pathetic that it even put some of his fellow comrades to sleep.

The stunt has also had the opposite effect that Jeffries intended. Vice-President JD Vance announced he had received a message from a GOP congressman who was undecided on the bill but is now a “yes” thanks to Jeffries’ stupid stunt.

“GOP Congressman just texted me: I was undecided on the bill but then I watched Hakeem Jeffries’ performance and now I’m a firm yes,” Vance wrote.

This stunt by Jeffries comes after the House advanced Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill 219-213 to a final vote after a marathon all-night session.

Speaker Mike Johnson had vowed to keep the vote on the rule to close debate and advance the bill as long as necessary. The rule finally passed just before 3:30 A.M.

But it was not without tremendous drama as the legislation appeared to fail earlier in the evening, thanks to five initial GOP no votes and eight other members not voting.

But thanks to the combined efforts of President Trump and Speaker Johnson, all but one of the GOP no votes flipped to yes, while the other holdouts also fell in line.

The lone no vote was from RINO Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who fled the floor shortly after casting his vote.
