If France and the UK can’t even tackle illegal migration on the channel, how will they manage to ‘defend Europe’?
When it comes to France and the United Kingdom, we feel tempted almost to describe them as ‘the former European powers’, because while they’re still the two nuclear-armed nations in the continent, generations of Liberalism/Globalism have turned both countries into pale imitations of the ones that emerged victorious in WW2.
Their current political leaders, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have many things in common: complete adherence to Globalist failed policies, a constant push for military escalation in the continent, an obsession with Ukraine, frayed societies on the brink of collapse – and very, very bad popularity numbers.
They also have proved that they can’t work well together – they haven’t been able to accomplish the relatively minor task of tackling the small boat invasion of illegals to the UK from French beaches.
But now, during Macron’s state visit to London, they have announced plans to do something much harder: to coordinate their use of nuclear weapons for the first time to defend Europe from ‘extreme’ threats.
The Telegraph reported:
“In a declaration signed during Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to the UK, the French president and Sir Keir Starmer pledged to work ‘more closely than ever before’ on nuclear deterrence.”
Europe’s two nuclear powers plan to coordinate their deployment of nuclear-armed submarines and fighter jets during a military conflict in the continent.
“In recent months, Germany has called on France to more explicitly commit itself to defending the rest of Europe amid concerns that Donald Trump is poised to scale back the US military’s presence on the Continent.
France is part of Nato but has traditionally maintained a completely independent nuclear posture, while Britain’s deterrent forms a key part of the alliance’s defense strategy.”
Any adversary threatening the vital interests of Britain or France, the countries vow, is to be ‘confronted by the strength of the nuclear forces of both nations’.
Keir Starmer: “’From war in Europe, to new nuclear risks and daily cyber-attacks – the threats we face are multiplying. As close partners and Nato allies, the UK and France have a deep history of defense collaboration and today’s agreements take our partnership to the next level. We stand ready to use our shared might to advance our joint capabilities – equipping us for the decades to come while supporting thousands of UK jobs and keeping our people safe’.”
