EXCLUSIVE: PA State Reps. Discuss Democrats’ Fight Against Bill Banning Men from Women’s Sports, Jeopardizing Federal Funding to Schools – Governor Shapiro Expected to Reject Legislation if Passed in the House (VIDEO)

Penn swimmer Riley Gaines cheated by failed male swimmer Liam Thomas at women’s match

Pennsylvania State Representatives Barb Gleim and Robert Leadbetter spoke to The Gateway Pundit over the weekend to discuss Pennsylvania House Democrats’ opposition to women’s rights and their slimy tactics to prevent a vote on the Save Women’s Sports Act.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, the GOP-led effort to ban men from women’s sports in Pennsylvania educational institutions, SB 9, was passed in the State Senate in early May with five Democrats voting in favor. However, it has not seen a vote in the House since it was transmitted on May 7.

On Tuesday, Rep. Barb Gleim was poised to force the bill to the House Floor for a vote, but the Democrats executed a scheme to keep the bill in committee by arbitrarily re-referring the bill to the Health Committee.

State Representatives Gleim and Robert Leadbeter, the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus Chairman, joined The Gateway Pundit for an exclusive interview to discuss Pennsylvania House Democrats’ dirty tricks to stop the bill.

Rep. Gleim told The Gateway Pundit that Republicans in Pennsylvania have been fighting to pass a version of this bill since 2021, when UPenn swimmer Riley Gaines and female swimmers at UPenn were impeded by a biological male, Liam Thomas. Gleim introduced  HB 972 in April 2021, and it took over one year to pass through the State House and Senate, only to be vetoed by former Governor Tom Wolf. Gleim said, “I do believe that it is their their their strategy to just keep it in the house by transferring it from committee to committee.”

“The irony, of course, is that this issue is an 80/20 issue. We have polled this issue. Pennsylvanians have spoken out on this issue and have sent a resoundingly clear message to Harrisburg that they do not want men playing in girls’ sports,” Rep. Leadbeter said.

Rep. Gliem further explained that this attempt by Democrats to stop the legislation before school begins in August “absolutely jeopardizes” federal funding for educational institutions. President Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” Executive Order directs the Department of Education to enforce Title IX based on biological sex and to withhold federal funding from educational institutions that allow trans-identified men to compete in women’s sports.

It can be recalled that the Trump Administration cut off $175 million to UPenn back in March after they defied his orders on banning men in women’s sports, causing them to submit to the federal government’s biological definitions for male and female, erase Liam Thomas’s records from the books, and award victories to the female swimmers whose glory Thomas had stolen. “You’re also seeing it played out on the national screens here in California, where Governor Newsom is doubling down and saying, we’re going to not adhere to this executive order,” Gleim said.

“I think that Pennsylvania really does not want to lose federal funding. We’ve seen that President Trump is willing to take those dollars, so we need to pass this bill as soon as possible.”

However, Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro has “said he will not sign it,” Gleim told us. “When he does have his sights focused on federal issues or federal offices that are outside and in the future politically, it would make sense to sign this into law,” Leadbeter said, referencing Shapiro’s potential presidential ambitions while noting that he’s “turning his back on Pennsylvanians.”
