George Santos to Report for Seven-Year Prison Sentence — Says He’s Not Expecting Trump Pardon

Former Congressman George Santos will report for prison on Friday.

Santos, who last year plead guilty to identity theft and wire fraud and was sentenced to seven years in prison, said he is not expecting a pardon from President Trump.

“I don’t think he can,” Santos told POLITICO when asked about the possibility of the president granting clemency.

“He’s in a position where he needs to put the country ahead of one man, and that’s just a fact.

”He would lose support in the House from Republicans who have already capitulated.”

The 37-year-old said he “would not waver” in his support for this administration.

Back in April, Santos had pleaded with Trump for a pardon on the grounds that his sentenced had been “politically influenced.”

He wrote:

This is the hardest statement I have ever written. I write this humbled, chastened, and fully accountable for choices that shattered the faith so many placed in me.

I betrayed the confidence entrusted to me by many. For that, I offer my deepest apology.

When I pled guilty, I did so without reservation. I said then, and I repeat now, that my conduct betrayed my supporters and diminished the institution I was privileged to serve. Those words have weighed on me every day since.

I cannot rewrite the past, but I can control the road ahead. I asked the Court for a sentence that balances accountability with the chance to prove through sustained, measurable action that I can still contribute positively to the community I wronged.

I believe that 7 years is an over the top politically influenced sentence and I implore that President Trump gives me a chance to prove I’m more than the mistakes I’ve made.

This is the hardest statement I have ever written. I write this humbled, chastened, and fully accountable for choices that shattered the faith so many placed in me. I betrayed the confidence entrusted to me by many. For that, I offer my deepest apology.

When I pled guilty, I did…

Elected to Congress in November 2022, Santos became the most conservative member of his freshman class.

But within a year, mounting allegations about his personal life and past criminal activity led to his expulsion from the chamber.
