Eric Barber: J6 Patriot and Stock Car Driver Fighting for a Sponsor to Keep His Racing Dream Alive

Guest Post by Daniel Goodwyn

Eric Barber’s story is one of grit, perseverance, and a refusal to give up—even when the odds are stacked against him. A former city councilman and a January 6th political prisoner, Eric has endured the destruction of his career, the loss of his freedom, and relentless persecution. Yet through it all, he has held on to the one passion that has kept him grounded: stock car racing.

Eric has also remained active in his local community and politics. He was elected to the Parkersburg City Council in 2016 and quickly made headlines for standing firm in his Christian faith—reciting the Lord’s Prayer before meetings, which led to a lawsuit from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. In 2018, he worked with FAMM to lobby for the First Step Act in D.C., a law that would later benefit him personally as a federal prisoner.
“Racing is my therapy,” Eric told me. “When I’m behind the wheel, I can forget, at least for a while, about all the attacks and the stigma of being a J6er. But without a sponsor, I can’t keep going much longer. Every car on pit lane has a sponsor but mine.”

Eric’s GiveSendGo fundraiser—givesendgo.com/J6-StockCarDriver—is his first time publicly asking for help since January 6th. He’s offering something special to those who step up to help: for every $100 donated, a donor’s name will be placed on the hood of his car, alongside a memorial to J6 patriots who were killed or died due to medical neglect while imprisoned.

The Struggle to Get a Sponsor

Eric’s lifelong dream has been racing. After years of being a crew member, he finally bought his first stock car just before January 6th. In 2022, despite juggling federal court hearings and incarceration, he earned Rookie of the Year honors while driving a full-blown NASCAR car from the early 2000s.

Throughout his political career, Eric championed pro-life causes and public safety. He helped organize a “Confirm Kavanaugh” rally in his hometown, increased police wages, and led one of West Virginia’s largest pro-law enforcement rallies in response to “defund the police” protests. He earned endorsements from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 79, the Firefighters Local 91, and the Family Policy Council of West Virginia—becoming the only member of his city council to receive that last honor.

But his status as a J6er has cost him the sponsorships that nearly every other driver takes for granted. Businesses are afraid of being “doxxed” or targeted for supporting him. Eric shared, “I’ve had companies tell me they would love to sponsor me but they’re scared. They say, ‘If I put my logo on your car, I’ll wake up to 6,000 negative Google reviews.’”

Even without sponsorship, Eric pushed forward. He bought and resold race parts to fund his car, skipped hotels and slept in his truck, and relied on used tires from other teams. But now, after years of stretching every resource, he’s run out. His safety gear is outdated, his fuel cell needs repairs, and his racing career is on the verge of being parked for good.

Currently, Eric is ranked 4th out of 15 drivers in his racing series’ championship points—an impressive feat given his lack of funding and resources. He’s set to race at his home track this Saturday, but beyond that, his finances are nearing a breaking point. “If I can’t find a sponsor soon, I’ll have to park the car,” he said. “This Saturday might be my last race for a while.”
“I’d love to have a company like MyPillow come onboard,” Eric said. “I’d be proud to carry a sponsor that shares our values.”

Why This Fundraiser Matters

Eric is not just raising money for himself—he’s racing to keep the memory of J6 patriots alive. His car’s hood will bear the names of the fallen, making every lap a tribute. This isn’t just a racing story; it’s a stand against the regime’s attempt to erase those who dared to speak out.
