A bit of perhaps unintentional comic relief was provided during today’s historic White House Press Conference on tackling rampant crime in the nation’s capital.
As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, President Trump on Monday announced that he is invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to place Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department under “direct federal control” and authorizing the Secretary of Defense to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, DC.
“We’re formally declaring a public safety emergency. This is an emergency. This is a tragic emergency, and it’s embarrassing,” Trump said.
“This city will no longer be a sanctuary for illegal alien criminals. We will have full, seamless, integrated cooperation at all levels of law enforcement, and we’ll deploy officers across the district with an overwhelming presence.”
During the question-and-answer session, one reporter had another topic on his mind: Trump’s plans to build a ballroom in the White House. According to the Washington Post, the Trump administration plans to begin working next month on the $200 million, 90,000-square-foot project.
The reporter wanted to know if Trump could add a new briefing room for the journalists.
“My question is this: you’re building a big, beautiful ballroom. Could we build a big, beautiful briefing room and add more seats?” he asked.
Trump, though, had some bad news for him.
“No, I don’t want to do that,” Trump replied. “I don’t want you to be comfortable. I don’t want to do that.”
Right after Trump makes the remark, Pete Hegseth and Pam Bondi start laughing, and everyone else in the room also cracks up.
