On Monday, following President Trump’s announcement on addressing the rampant crime in Washington, D.C., Border Czar Tom Homan joined Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” and slammed the lies being told by the legacy media and Democrats downplaying and denying the reality of the dangers.
President Trump announced that he is invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to place Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department under “direct federal control” and authorizing the Secretary of Defense to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, DC.
Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act allows the President to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department under “special conditions of an emergency nature.”
Rob Schmitt: Trump surging law enforcement to DC, National Guard, FBI, ATF, Secret Service. Is ICE a part of this equation at all?
Tom Homan: Yes, ICE and Border Patrol. I think it’s a great idea. I mean, I’ve been in law enforcement for years. I won’t transit DC without a gun.
And any of these reports said the crime rate is way down and is safer than they say. I dare anyone… walk the streets of DC after dark. If it’s that safe, go ahead and do it and see how that works out for you.
Rob Schmitt: What do you say? The people that are trying to spin this, how blind do they think the average American is, especially one that might live and commute in the DC area, to try and get us to believe that it’s really getting better in Washington when you see the stories?
Tom Homan: It’s the same people said the border is secure as you and I watch thousands of people cross the border every day. They just thought they’d think we’re idiots.
So anybody transit DC, works in DC or lives in DC, they know the truth. And just like the ones who are smart, we knew the border was not secure. We knew the border was a historic crisis. So the lies, the lies, the lies.
They think if they lie enough, people will start believing them. But Americans are smarter.

On Monday, President Trump also signed a Presidential memorandum directing the Secretary of Defense to utilize National Guard troops to clean up DC and authorizing state governors to use their National Guard troops at home. “We will bring in the military if it’s needed,” Trump told reporters.
