President Trump announces plan to stop violent crime in Washington, DC – August 11, 2025

On Monday, President Trump announced that he is invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to place Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department under “direct federal control” and authorizing the Secretary of Defense to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, DC.

Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act allows the President to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department under “special conditions of an emergency nature.”

Although some on the left are complaining about Trump’s promise to Make DC Safe Again, the efforts are already yielding results.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced that 45 arrests have already been made, with 16 of them tied to the violent crime surge.

Those arrested included a man accused of assaulting a federal police officer.

The New York Post reported that 37-year-old DC resident Sean Charles Dunn was caught on tape using a sandwich from Subway to attack a federal officer deployed by President Trump.

According to the criminal complaint, which was obtained by ABC News, Dunn approached the officer and shouted “f**k you! You f**king fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city,” before striking the officer in the chest with the sandwich.

Patel announced that additional arrests included possession of child sex abuse material, possession of illegal firearms, and drug trafficking.

In addition, 29 illegals were removed, many of whom had final orders of removal.
