BREAKING: DC Democrat Attorney General Sues to Block Trump Admin’s “Hostile Takeover” of Local Police

DC politicians have already grown tired of their city’s newfound law and order and seek a return to anarchy.

As NBC News reported, Brian Schwalb, attorney general for the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit in federal court in the nation’s capital on Friday, saying the Trump administration’s takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department is unconstitutional.

The lawsuit also aims to ensure that DEI-loving Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith remains in ‘command’ of D.C.’s police department.

Schwalb, a Democrat released the following statement:

By declaring a hostile takeover of MPD, the Administration is abusing its limited, temporary authority under the Home Rule Act, infringing on the District’s right to self-governance and putting the safety of DC residents and visitors at risk.

The Administration’s unlawful actions are an affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call DC home. This is the gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it.” ,

As The Gateway Pundit reported, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a directive yesterday that DEA Administrator Terry Cole would be the “emergency police commissioner” of MPD for the remainder of Trump’s takeover, overriding Smith.

Bondi’s order also removed several of the D.C. police department’s standing orders. This includes one Smith issued yesterday allowing D.C. officers to work with federal immigration authorities.

Bondi explained that Smith’s order did not go far enough.

President Trump on Monday announced that he was invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to place Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department under “direct federal control” and authorizing the Secretary of Defense to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, DC.

“We’re formally declaring a public safety emergency. This is an emergency. This is a tragic emergency, and it’s embarrassing,” Trump said. “This city will no longer be a sanctuary for illegal alien criminals.

“We will have full, seamless, integrated cooperation at all levels of law enforcement, and we’ll deploy officers across the district with an overwhelming presence.”

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
