President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he plans to join local law enforcement and military personnel on patrol in the nation’s capital this evening, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to address rising crime rates in the city.

The revelation came during an interview with conservative radio host Todd Starnes, where Trump stated, “I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military, of course. So we’re going to do a job.”

Trump added, “The National Guard is great. They’ve done a fantastic job.”

Details on the exact route or activities remain undisclosed for security reasons, but the president is reportedly expected to oversee operations firsthand.

This move follows the Trump administration’s recent activation of the National Guard in D.C. and the temporary federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department. The deployment, which began earlier this month, aims to enhance security and enforce law and order in response to what the White House has described as a “crime emergency” in the city.

Federal agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have also joined local patrols.

In a statement released on Thursday titled “From Safer Streets to Investment Boom, President Trump Delivers Results,” the administration noted, “For the first time in a long time, D.C. has gone seven days without a homicide,” crediting the increased federal presence for restoring safety.

The White House noted that “Carjackings are down 83%. Robberies are down 46%. Car thefts [are] down 21%, and overall violent crime is down 22%.”

The full interview with Starnes is scheduled to air at 12 p.m. ET on “The Todd Starnes Show.”
