Far Left WA Rep. Pramila Jayapal Blames Supermarket Closures in State on Corporate Greed Rather Than Ignoring Crime

Screencap of YouTube video.

As the Gateway Pundit reported yesterday, Kroger is closing a number of supermarkets in Washington state due to crime, mostly shoplifting.

It’s a well known fact that grocery stores operate on an extremely slim profit margin, so even a small amount of theft can have a devastating effect on a company’s bottom line.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington clearly does not understand this, or is simply trying to spin the issue for the benefit of her fans on the left, because instead of recognizing that her party’s lax approach to crime is responsible, she is blaming corporate greed.

This is right out of the Bernie Sanders playbook. See below:

This is yet another example of corporations putting their shareholders and profits ahead of their workers and customers.https://t.co/lieUJ8mXU4 pic.twitter.com/LeMqJIMTxh

Perhaps if the liberal leaders in Washington prosecuted thieves, these closures would not be happening. Also, Jayapal doesn’t seem to understand that Kroger has an obligation to its shareholders.

People responded to her on Twitter/X:

Democrats treat theft like a joke and Seattle has a minimum wage of over $20 per hour. Now, you’re acting like they’re wronging you by closing up stores your policies made unprofitable? Why don’t you liberals ever blame yourselves for the consequences of your policies?

Maybe if these cities would arrest and convict shoplifters, they wouldn’t close. Crime is bad for business

It’s never the problems caused by Democrats who are ruining the city though, is it? You are so completely out-of-touch with REALITY. Why do you hate Americans so much?

Putting their shareholders first is called “doing their fiduciary duty” and they are legally obligated to do it.

If you don’t want stores to close, stop creating an environment in which businesses cannot thrive. https://t.co/3CAdqbshcT

Crime ruins communities. What is it about the left that they cannot understand this basic concept?
