A young refugee suffered a cruel and ironic fate after escaping from war-torn Ukraine to the United States of America.
As The New York Post reported, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska was brutally murdered by a low-life thug in Charlotte, North Carolina, who had no business walking free to begin with. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department revealed Zarutska suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the East/West Boulevard light rail station at 10 P.M. ET Friday.
Police have not confirmed whether the stabbing took place on the train, platform, or nearby, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Zarutska had recently arrived in America seeking safety and a new lease on life as Russia continues to bombard her homeland.
Police identified 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. as the person responsible for Zarutska’s death. He has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Brown, Jr. is a career criminal and is currently homeless. The Post obtained court records showing he has been arrested multiple times for various crimes since 2011.
His arrests included: felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and communicating threats. WSOC-TV reveals Brown Jr. served five years in prison for the robbery with a deadly weapon charge.
For some reason, though, the other charges were dropped. But he is still facing charges for allegedly misusing a 911 system.
An affidavit obtained by the Charlotte Observer suggests that Brown Jr. suffers from mental health issues. In the affidavit, he claimed someone gave him a “man-made” material that controlled his life, especially when he ate, walked, and talked.
Officers arrived and told Brown Jr. that he was experiencing a medical issue and that they could do nothing to assist him. He was later arrested after calling 911 to complain.
Police have not yet revealed why Brown Jr. stabbed Zarutska. The investigation remains ongoing.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Zarutska’s aunt to help her niece’s immediate family with “the unexpected expenses.”
