Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat often described as a future presidential contender, just admitted what Democrats never like to say out loud: they can’t govern their own cities without federal support.

In a nationally televised interview, Moore declared he would “absolutely welcome federal support” to help clean up Baltimore.

That statement would never have been made if not for President Trump’s relentless pressure campaign exposing Democrat failures on crime.

For decades, Baltimore has been one of the worst-run cities in America, controlled entirely by Democrats. Between 2015 and 2022, the city averaged more than 300 murders per year, making it one of the deadliest big cities in the country.

In 2022, Baltimore’s homicide rate was 57 per 100,000 residents—higher than Chicago and nearly ten times the national average. Even with some recent declines, Baltimore still ranks among the most violent cities in America.

That record belongs to Democrats, not Republicans.

President Trump has made crime a centerpiece of his agenda and has forced Democrats to confront realities they would rather ignore.

Earlier this summer, Trump deployed the National Guard into Washington, D.C., after record levels of violent crime, arson, and carjackings.

Homicides in D.C. rose 35% in 2023 compared with the previous year, with nearly 950 carjackings.

Trump’s move sent a clear message: if Democrats refuse to enforce the law, Republicans will. Now he is threatening to do the same in Baltimore and Chicago.

Moore is already backpedaling. While attacking Trump for “scare tactics,” he simultaneously extended an invitation for Trump to walk the streets of Baltimore with him in September, an attempt to soften the criticism.

That invitation itself is proof that Moore knows Trump’s message resonates. Democrats cannot afford to be seen as indifferent to crime, especially as they try to hold on to working-class voters who live with the consequences of failed liberal policies every day.

The problems go beyond crime. The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in March 2024 created another test of leadership.

The bridge, which carried 11.3 million vehicles per year and supported a port that handles $80 billion in foreign trade, will cost an estimated $1.7 to $1.9 billion to rebuild.

Trump’s administration has raised serious questions about those cost projections, accusing Maryland Democrats of inflating figures to grab more federal money.

Moore wants Washington to write a blank check. Republicans are rightly demanding transparency and accountability before billions of taxpayer dollars are handed over to a state that has mismanaged its biggest city for decades.

Moore’s personal credibility is also under fire. Fox News host Will Cain recently pressed him on his military record, pointing to evidence that Moore falsely claimed he had received a Bronze Star years before it was actually awarded.

Cain said bluntly: “Governor, that’s stolen valor.”

Moore’s office dismissed the issue as an administrative mistake, but the controversy further undermines a politician Democrats are trying to present as their next Obama-style national figure.

Trump’s approach is simple: enforce the law, hold criminals accountable, and put the safety of law-abiding citizens ahead of political correctness.

Moore wanted to be seen as a leading Democrat voice for 2028. Instead, he just gave Trump one of his biggest victories yet: a Democrat governor admitting that his state needs Washington’s help to deal with crime.
