The father of a 6-year-old boy brutally murdered in a 2015 home invasion has publicly threatened to kill his son’s attacker after the man was released on parole after serving only about eight years behind bars.
The murder occurred on December 7, 2015, in Versailles, Kentucky, when Ronald Exantus, 38, broke into the home of the Tipton family in the middle of the night.
Exantus, who had no prior connection to the family, randomly selected their house and proceeded to stab the sleeping residents with a kitchen knife he found in the home.
Young Logan Tipton, just 6 years old, was the primary target of the attack. Exantus slashed the boy repeatedly in the head, killing him while he screamed for help.
Logan’s father, Dean Tipton, confronted the intruder and was stabbed in the process before being thrown 10 to 15 feet across the room.
Exantus also attacked Logan’s sister, Dakota Tipton, stabbing her in the back and stomping on her head.
Dakota, who survived the ordeal, later recounted the horror: “He stabbed me in the back. And then stomped on my head. And I remember waking up across the room, not where I was at, and I looked and he was killing Logan and Logan was screaming.”
According to reports, Exantus told Dakota during the attack that he intended to kill every member of the family.
Exantus was arrested at the scene.
In 2018, after a trial, a jury found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity but convicted him on assault charges related to the attacks on Dean and Dakota Tipton.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
However, due to good behavior, education credits, and time served, Exantus was granted parole and released on October 1, after serving approximately eight years, less than half of his original sentence.
The early release has rightly sparked outrage from the Tipton family.
Dean Tipton, in particular, has been vocal about his anger and fear for his family’s safety.
Speaking to local media, he stated: “He told [Dakota] that he was going to kill every one of us. So now I’ve gotta be on extra guard to protect my kids because I will not lose another one.”

In a more direct and ominous warning, Dean told reporters: “I’ve had my talks with God cause I’m not afraid to tell you all, I told the court — if I ever cross paths with him, I will kill the man. I will kill him where he stands.”
Logan’s mother, Heather Tipton, echoed the family’s frustration over the lenient outcome: “It’s infuriating that a six-year-old was killed sleeping in his bed and someone literally only did ten years in prison and he didn’t even do the time for that, he did time for assault charges.”
The child murderer’s parole supervision is scheduled to end in 2026, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
Exantus’s current whereabouts have not been publicly disclosed, but the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup confirms his release status.
