A family outing to a local farmer’s market turned ugly in Wisconsin after Democrats from Winnebago County handed an eight-year-old child a bracelet calling for President Trump’s death.
As the family wandered the various booths at the Oshkosh Farmers Market, Oshkosh resident Katy Neubauer told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that although she and her sister-in-law are not Democrats, they met near the Winnebago County Democrat Party tent because it had activities for kids.
Neubauer said the bracelet read, “Is he dead yet?”
Neubauer told “The Faulkner Focus” host Harris Faulkner, “I hand it back to him and I said, ‘We don’t wear hate speech here.’”
“I had to walk away because I was seething.”
Neubauer said she later returned to the booth and noticed other bracelets with anti-Trump messages, including ones marked “8647.” The phrase combines “86,” slang for “get rid of” or “kill,” with “47,” referring to Trump as the 47th president.
The mother said she contacted the market’s manager, who told her she wasn’t the first to complain.
FOX 11 News Green Bay notes the manager of the farmers market confirmed the booth was operated by the Winnebago County Democratic Party, and the decision was made that the group would not return for the remaining markets of the season.
The Republican Party of Winnebago County said this type of material is concerning. Chairman Cameron Clark pointed to the Sept. 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a reminder that political violence and hate speech cannot be tolerated.
“We are at a time in our country where political violence is at an all-time high, and to have one of the major parties out there continuing to perpetuate it would be very sad,” Clark said.
The Winnebago GOP shared a statement from the farmer’s market regarding the situation.
“On Saturday, October 11, someone in the Winnebago County Democratic Party booth gave a minor child a bracelet that said #ishedeadyet. The mother of the child contacted the market manager to report the incident and to express concern about the integrity of the market.”
“This item did not align with current market policies. Since that time, the market has received multiple complaints about items being displayed and distributed, as such by mutual agreement, the Winnebago County Democratic Party will not have a booth at the remaining Oshkosh Saturday Farmers Markets this season.”
“The Oshkosh Saturday Farmers Market Board will be reviewing and considering revisions to market policies to prevent any similar incidents in the future.”
