President Donald Trump threatened to deploy “more than the National Guard” to clean up crime-ridden Democrat-run cities during a speech to American troops stationed in Japan on Tuesday.
Speaking aboard the USS George Washington at Yokosuka Naval Base, Trump explained he is willing to do whatever it takes to make urban areas safer for Americans.
“We have cities in trouble. We can’t have cities that have trouble,” Trump said. “We’re sending in the National Guard and we need more than the National Guard.”
“We’ll send more than the National Guard, because we’re going to have safe cities,” he added. “We’re not going to have people killed in our cities. And whether people like that or not, that’s what we’re doing.”

The president did not specify which cities may potentially see deployments.

Trump has already deployed the National Guard to cities including DC, Los Angeles, Memphis, Chicago, and Portland, as liberal policies have allowed crime to spiral out of control.
The deployments have faced extreme legal and political fights from Democrats, who would rather keep Americans at risk than allow Trump to get a win.
Trump has previously stated that he is open to invoking the 1807 Insurrection Act, which would enable him to deploy active troops to American cities being plagued by violent riots or crime.
“I’d do it if it was necessary,” Trump told reporters at the White House earlier this month. “So far, it hasn’t been necessary. But we have an Insurrection Act for a reason. If I had to enact it, I’d do that.”
USA Today reports:
A federal judge in Chicago temporarily blocked the deployment there while the dispute is litigated and Trump has asked the Supreme Court to remove the restriction. The justices could issue a decision on that temporary block at any time.
The Justice Department relied heavily in its Supreme Court request on two written statements to justify its stated need for the National Guard to protect federal agents and property.
The statements by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency official Russell Hott and Border Patrol official Daniel Parra portray the situation on the ground as dire and dangerous.
