A resurfaced video from an August rally in Minneapolis has gone viral, showing Democratic Socialist state senator and mayoral candidate Omar Fateh, a Somali-born Muslim, amid chants and flag-waving that critics interpret as a pledge of allegiance to Somalia. The footage captures Fateh waving the Somali flag while a speaker addresses the crowd in Somali, urging Somalians to vote for him and emphasizing loyalty to their heritage.

Social media platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram have erupted with negative reactions, with users accusing Fateh of prioritizing foreign allegiance over American interests. One post on Facebook described the event as Fateh speaking in “Arabic babble” and pledging loyalty to Somalia, garnering thousands of shares and comments expressing outrage.

Critics on Instagram highlighted the absence of American flags at the rally, labeling it a sign of divided loyalties in “Little Somalia” within Minneapolis. Fateh’s campaign has not publicly responded to the backlash, but the video has fueled debates about immigration and national identity in the lead-up to the election.

In a separate political development, Vice President JD Vance addressed a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi, where he sparred with college students on immigration policy. During the Q&A session, a young woman pressed Vance on his stance to reduce immigration levels. Vance responded firmly, stating that his job as vice president is not to look out for the interests of the whole world but to prioritize the people of the United States.
