Federal law enforcement officers came under vicious attack from a raging mob on Wednesday while executing arrest warrants against two anti-ICE agitators accused of assaulting DHS agents during a July raid on a California marijuana facility.
The chaos unfolded in Oxnard, California, as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles agents moved in to arrest siblings Isai Carrillo, 31, and Virginia Reyes, 32, both U.S. citizens and members of the radical anarchist group VC Defensa.
The duo is charged with conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers after allegedly throwing rocks at agents and vehicles, organizing others to do the same, and damaging government property during a targeted operation to rescue migrant children from potential human trafficking, exploitation, and forced labor at a Camarillo pot farm on July 10.
During the arrests, Reyes took to social media to broadcast ICE’s location, inciting a violent crowd to swarm the scene and hurl rocks at the officers.
Carrillo was taken into custody on the spot, while Reyes initially fled before surrendering the next day.
During the melee, U.S. citizen Jesus Posadas-Espinoza was arrested for assaulting a federal officer by lobbing rocks at ICE vehicles outside the siblings’ residence.
Additionally, four illegal aliens from Mexico, Lorenzo Toribo-Lopez, Talio Toribo-Lopez, Sergio Ortiz-Tenorio, and Victoria Ortiz-Tenorio, were taken into custody at the home. Their criminal histories include illegal entry and DUI causing bodily injury.
They were handed over to ICE for deportation proceedings.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the attacks on officers.
“Law enforcement officers are facing a 1,000% surge in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats against them. They are putting their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, and gang members,” said McLaughlin in a press release.
“Violent rioter Isai Carrillo, arrested by HSI, was part of a violent group called VC Defensa – a network that regularly impedes and obstructs law enforcement. The operation, which these violent rioters tried to obstruct, resulted in law enforcement rescuing 10 migrant children from potential exploitation, forced labor, and human trafficking.”
Secretary Kristi Noem added a message for the rioters: “You will not stop us or slow us down. ICE and our federal law enforcement partners will continue to enforce the law. And if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
This bust is part of a larger sweep announced by the Justice Department, where 10 individuals, including Carrillo and Reyes, face federal complaints for committing violence against officers during anti-ICE protests in the Los Angeles area.
The July operation successfully rescued 10 migrant children from the illicit pot facility, despite the rioters’ attacks.
Since June, ICE and CBP have arrested over 7,100 illegal aliens in the Los Angeles region alone.
