Canadian PM Mark Carney Apologizes to Trump Over Manipulated Reagan Tariff Ad

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has apologized to President Donald Trump for running an ad directly attacking his tariff policy.

The ad, which Ontario Premier Doug Ford aired, caused anger in the White House and led Trump to impose a 10 percent increase in tariffs on Canadian exports to the U.S.

“I did apologize to the president,” Carney told reporters on Saturday during a summit in South Korea.

Trump confirmed that Carney had indeed apologized and said the pair had a good working relationship.

“I have a very good relationship [with Carney]. I like him a lot, but what they did was wrong.”

“He was very nice,” he continued. “He apologized for what they did with the commercial.”

Carney insisted he warned Ford that he did not want the ad to go ahead.

“I told Ford I did not want to go forward with the ad,” he said.

However, Ford said it had been “very effective” because it had sparked a reaction from Trump.

“You know why President Trump is so upset right now?” he explained. “Because it was effective. It was working, it woke up the whole country.”

Trump had previously stated on Truth Social that the ad, reportedly costing $75,000,000, was an attempt to interfere with an upcoming case at the U.S. Supreme Court regarding whether the president has the unilateral right to impose tariffs without congressional authorization.

Meanwhile, the Ronald Reagan Foundation on Thursday threatened to take legal action for misrepresenting his political views.

“The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks,” they said in a statement.

“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is reviewing its legal options in this matter.”
