Mario Nawful reported on X, “The shooter fired two rounds and fled the scene in a BMW SUV, witnesses refused to cooperate.”

Boyd, a six-year NFL veteran, signed with the Jets this season after stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.

He is currently on injured reserve.

The International Business Times reports, “This tragic news is compounded by the fact that Boyd was already facing a professional setback. The cornerback is currently listed on the Jets’ injured reserve, meaning his 2025 season had already been prematurely halted by an on-field injury. He was not expected to play again this year, but this new, life-threatening challenge is one no player could ever anticipate.”

The Jets organization and the NFL have not yet released an official statement.

The shooting is the latest high-profile violent incident in a city that has struggled with rising crime in recent years.
