New York Democrats are working on a plan to deprive the Republicans of a much-needed House seat.
As Rep. Elise Stefanik takes up her role as Donald Trump’s Ambassador to the United Nations, the Republicans will lose another Congressional seat on what is already a razor-thin majority.
To try and squeeze that majority even further, New York Democrats have put forward legislation that would allow Governor Kathy Hochul to delay scheduling special elections until November.
Under current law, Hochul is required to schedule a special election within 90 days after the vacancy is declared.
The decision to allow this delay until November is all the more convenient for Democrats because it will coincide with New York’s state elections.
New York, Virginia, and New Jersey hold state elections in an off-year, serving as the pre-show to the all-important midterm elections in 2026.
According to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the cost of holding an election in Stefanik’s seat is simply too high.
“Right now, New Yorkers are facing unprecedented challenges, including the strain on our democracy and our high cost of living,” she said in a statement.
”At a time when people need our government to work more efficiently, this legislation is a common-sense approach that saves taxpayer dollars while maximizing voter turnout.”
”In this moment of national uncertainty, we must protect democratic participation while ensuring the government remains fiscally responsible. This legislation achieves both.”
Hochul has backed this proposal, the blatant power grab is all in service of democratic principles.
“I’ll tell you what a very short time frame does: It favors people who are already elected officials versus a citizen who wants to run because there’s a lot involved in this,” she said.
“So you’re actually denying more opportunities for people to run who don’t already hold elected office.”
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Rob Orr pointed out that it willl leave Stefanik’s district without representation for nine months.
“The radical Democrats in Albany just dropped a corrupt, backroom disastrous bill on a Friday night because that’s what power-hungry politicians do when they’re trying to silence the people and rig the system in their favor,” he explained.
“This disgraceful move will deny over 750,000 New Yorkers their voice for months, all because Democrats are terrified of losing power and will do anything to stop President Trump from putting America first.”
Last month, The Gateway Pundit reported that RINO Republicans in New York are actively trying to steal the seat by choosing one of their lackeys as for the seat.
This could come at the expense of Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino, a pro-Trump candidate who they are reportedly trying to force out of the race.
Unlike general elections, an obscure New York law states that Republican County Chairs must choose their nominee for special elections rather than holding an open primary.
