Hungarian PM Viktor Orban Hosts AfD’s Alice Weidel, Calls Her ‘The Future of Germany’

by February 13, 2025

German AfD’s Chancellor candidate Alice Weidel, and Hungarian Prime inister Viktor Orbán.

After the historic victory that led President Donald J. Trump back to the White House, European conservative champion Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian Prime Minister, predicted that new winds were blowing around the world, and that right-wingers were poised for even greater electoral victories all over Europe – as you can read in ‘OCCUPY BRUSSELS’: Hungarian PM Orbán Says the Trump Era in the US Is Set To Trigger More Conservative Victories in a Europe Already Shifting Right (VIDEO).

And we all know Orbán does not only ‘talk the talk’, but he also ‘walks the walk’, and now we see him hosting the German leader of the AfD party, a political movement that has been as maligned as Orbán himself – two ‘bogeymen’ that torment the Brussels liberal establishment.

AfD’s chancellor candidate Alice Weidel hailed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as a ‘great role model’ during her official meeting with him – the first encounter with a European hear of government – yesterday (12) in Budapest.

Watch: Orbán – ‘In a democracy you cannot govern against the will of the people. This is why AfD and Chairman Alice Weidel are the future of Germany’

Politico reported:

“Her party, Alternative for Germany or AfD, ‘Will follow the path of Hungary, our great role model, if we are part of the government’, said Weidel ahead of the German election on Feb. 23.”

After seeking to build a relationship with the US Trump administration – following an endorsement by DOGE director Elon Musk – Weidel is using this two-day visit to Hungary to break the international ‘firewall’ against her political movement.

Orbán was enthusiastic as he welcomed Weidel to Budapest.

“’The AfD is not a party that is welcomed by prime ministers in all European countries — but it is high time we change that’, said Orbán after a meeting with Weidel at his official residence. [He underscored the] close economic ties between the two countries as well as the similar anti-immigrant stance of both parties.”

Weidel, for her part, vowed to collaborate with Orbán in Brussels.

“’We should work together to reform the European Union at all costs. And that can only be done from within’, she said, adding: ‘We can achieve this by reducing the competences of the European Union, by dismantling the entire bureaucratic, expensive — and, in my view, corrupt — superstructure’.”

The AfD may be returning to Orbán’s Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament.

“The AfD had been kicked out of the [Patriots of Europe group] due to a rift with far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who sought to distance herself from the German party following a series of scandals — and in an attempt to present her own party as more moderate to French voters. The AfD subsequently formed its own far-right Europe of Sovereign Nations group.”

Deutsche Welle reported:

“At a press conference following their meeting, Orban said that AfD now has enough support in Germany that other parties can see a possibility to cooperate.

[…] ’It’s completely clear that the AfD is the future’, Orban said, adding that all of the far-right party’s platform, from immigration to the economy, would be ‘beneficial for Hungary’ if it were implemented in Germany.

Recent polls have put the AfD in second place with support of about 20%. However, without the support of other parties, there is no realistic way Weidel could enter government.”
