Comedy and free speech scored a massive win today in federal court.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday unanimously threw out the conviction of Pro-Trump meme maker and Crooked Hillary tormenter Douglass Mackey for posting memes during the 2016 election in an effort to help Trump win.

“We REVERSE Mackey’s conviction and REMAND the case to the district court with instructions to enter a judgment of acquittal,” the decision from the court reads.

Mackey had previously been sentenced to federal prison for “conspiracy to interfere with potential voters’ right to vote in the 2016 election for the Office of the President of the United States.”

Mackey responded to his victory by thanking God, his family, his attorney, and all those who had stood by his side from the beginning.

I would like to thank God, thank my family, thank my beautiful wife, attorney Andrew Frisch, the incredible attorneys at Jones Day, and YOU—the friends who prayed and donated and spread the word since day one. https://t.co/xabbKXnLKR

As TGP readers know, Douglass Mackey was indicted in January 2021 by the feds for using the social media platform to ‘spread election disinformation’ to Hillary Clinton voters in 2016.

“Ricky Vaughn” AKA, Douglass Mackey, used Twitter to post memes and troll Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election cycle.

Mackey was arrested in West Palm Beach in 2021 on one charge of conspiracy against rights. According to the unsealed indictment, Mackey conspired with others on Twitter to encourage black people to cast their votes via text message.

He was facing a 10-year prison sentence and ended up getting 7 months in October 2023. A federal judge stayed his sentence two months later.
