HAPPENING NOW: At Least Six Republicans Have Signed on to Support Legislation to Release Epstein Files

At least six Republicans have signed on to support legislation to release files related to deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, despite President Donald Trump urging the right to drop the matter.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie originally introduced the legislation alongside Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna.

Since its announcement, five more Republicans have signed on to co-sponsor the measure: Reps. Lauren Boebert, Jeff Van Drew, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Eric Burlison, and Tim Burchett.

“We all deserve to know what’s in the Epstein files, who’s implicated, and how deep this corruption goes,” Massie wrote in a post on X on Tuesday evening. “Americans were promised justice and transparency. We’re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the US House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files.”

On Wednesday, Rep. Greene quoted the announcement and wrote, “I am proudly cosponsoring and will sign the discharge petition. I will never protect pedophiles or the elites and their circles.”

Van Drew added, “I just cosponsored Rep. Thomas Massie’s bill to release the Epstein files. The American people deserve full transparency.”

The Republican support comes amid Trump declaring on Truth Social that anyone wanting the Epstein files released are “PAST supporters” and asserting: “I don’t want their support anymore!”

The bill is a discharge petition aimed at circumventing House Republican leadership and forcing a vote on the matter.

If all Democrats vote in favor, only a small number of Republican votes would be needed for it to pass.

The Hill reports:

The Massie and Khanna legislation would require Attorney General Pam Bondi to “make publicly available in a searchable and downloadable format all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the possession of the Department of Justice, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Attorneys’ Offices” that have links with Epstein within 30 days of the measure becoming law.

It also says the files cannot “be withheld, delayed, or redacted” should they cause “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary.”
