Snarky New York Times Article on Jeanine Pirro Actually Shows She Is Hard at Work as US Attorney for DC and Has Proven Herself to Skeptical Staff

A hit piece by New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush on newly confirmed U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Judge Jeanine Pirro actually shows Pirro is working long hours in her new post and has won over skeptical staff.

United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro

Pirro, 74, started her career fighting crime in 1975 as an assistant district attorney and then as a judge and district attorney in Westchester County, New York, serving elected terms in office from 1991 to 1993 and 1994 to 2005, respectively. Afterward, Pirro starred in the Judge Jeanine Pirro courtroom TV show on the CW from 2008 though 2011 and became a best selling author and Fox News host and commentator from 2011 through 2025. Pirro is also a longtime friend and supporter of President Donald Trump, who appointed her to the U.S. Attorney position.

One has to wade through nearly twenty paragraphs of snark to get to the most important news in the snarky Times article on Pirro by Thrush: That Pirro works long hours, lives in D.C. during the work-week and has proven herself to a skeptical staff:

If Ms. Pirro hopes to ascend in the department, she has not shared it with people in her orbit. She has defied expectations, common among staff before she arrived, that she would not take the job seriously, or spend her days kibbitzing at the White House.

Ms. Pirro has been working long hours, fortified by candy and early-morning workouts; she lives in a rented apartment in Washington during the week and commutes back to her house in Rye, N.Y., on the weekends…

She holds daily briefings with division chiefs in the office, circulates among staff and drops in on court proceedings of particular interest to her, including the trial of Shon Hopwood, a Georgetown Law professor convicted last month of assaulting his wife.

…She earned the wary respect of subordinates early in her tenure after a lone gunman fatally shot two Israeli Embassy employees in May outside the Jewish museum in downtown Washington. Ms. Pirro, donning tortoise shell glasses and discarding the flippancy of her persona on “The Five,” was well briefed, professional and measured.

The snark never ends, though. The conclusion of the Times article is straight out of 1950s sexist reporting:

Asked about recent cuts to criminal justice programs, Ms. Pirro, wearing a tailored navy-blue jacket and an expression of incredulity, took another high-heeled step toward the cameras.

“Oh, stop it!” she said.

Pirro appeared on Fox News Saturday night for an interview with President Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.

Pirro spoke about working, for the first time, for her decades long friend, President Trump (all caps via YouTube closed caption):

“I’VE GOT TO TELL YOU, I SPOKE TO HIM I THINK YESTERDAY AT 7:00 A.M. AND HE’S LIKE, HE’S NONSTOP. AND HE MOTIVATES ALL OF US, “WE NEED TO DO THIS AND THIS AND THIS.” I LOVE WORKING FOR HIM, I’M PROUD OF HIM, I BELIEVE IN HIM. HE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, HE BELIEVES IN THE AMERICAN DREAM, HE BELIEVES IN SAFETY AND SECURITY FOR AMERICANS. HE BELIEVES IN US AND WE BELIEVE IN HIM.”

Watch to the end to hear Pirro’s voice crack as she tries to keep her emotions in check while speaking about her motivation for leaving a cushy TV gig at age 74 for the hard, gritty work of U.S. Attorney for D.C.

Video clips posted by the White House:
