White House Says Trump Won’t Give Additional 600,000 Student Visas to Chinese but Will Give 600,000 Visas Over Two Years in “Continuation of Existing Policy”

The White House has clarified remarks from President Trump that the United States is going to allow 600,000 Chinese students into the country, saying that the United States will not grant 600,000 additional visas.

A Whtie House spokesperson told Fox News, “President Trump isn’t proposing an increase in student visas for Chinese students. The 600k references two years worth of visas. It’s simply a continuation of existing policy.”

Still, many of the President’s supporters are concerned about this plan to allow so many Chinese nationals, many of whom may be spies, to come in and take opportunities away from American citizens.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, the President ignited backlash after announcing that his administration will allow up to 600,000 Chinese students to study at American universities.

Trump pitched the idea as a “strategic move” to strengthen trade leverage with Beijing and prop up financially strapped U.S. universities.

But prominent supporters of the President lashed out, questioning why we would allow immigrants from an adversarial country to steal Americans’ educational opportunities and replace them in the workforce.

Fox host Laura Ingraham recently pressed Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on the issue, asking him, “how is allowing 600,000 students from the Communist country of China putting America first?”

When he tried to claim that it would help schools stay afloat, Ingraham fired back, “That just helps Harvard and UCLA and UC Berkeley. You’re all helping those schools. Why? She continued, “They’re basically factories of anti-American propaganda. Now they’re getting a big influx of cash because of the Chinese students.”
