**Schumer Shutdown day 6**
The US Senate voted again on Monday to reopen the government.
As expected, the measures failed again.
On October 1 at 12:01 am, the government partially shut down because two measures failed in the Senate. The measures to reopen the government failed again on Wednesday morning.
The House passed a clean, short-term stopgap funding bill to keep the government open. Schumer rejected it.
House Speaker Mike Johnson laid it out clearly:
- Democrats demanded restoring healthcare access for illegal aliens.
- They wanted $500 million funneled back to leftist PBS propaganda.
- They tried to slash funding for rural hospitals that serve working-class Americans.
- They demanded $1.5 trillion in NEW spending tied to just a seven-week funding measure.
Instead of working with Republicans to responsibly extend funding until November, Schumer chose a shutdown.
The Senate blocked the Democrat-proposed bill 45-50. The GOP-backed proposal failed 52-42.
President Trump blasted the Democrats shortly after the dueling Senate proposals failed on Monday evening.
“Democrats have SHUT DOWN the United States Government right in the midst of one of the most successful Economies, including a Record Stock Market, that our Country has ever had. This has sadly affected so many programs, services, and other elements of Society that Americans rely on — And it should not have happened. I am happy to work with the Democrats on their Failed Healthcare Policies, or anything else, but first they must allow our Government to re-open. In fact, they should open our Government tonight!” Trump said on Truth Social.
